The song of the day is “Goin to Jackson”, by Johnnie Cash and June Carter. We were rolling by 6:30 am and followed the Snake River another 45 miles upstream into a pretty annoying headwind. Then we turned into the mountains. Yes, the climb was as hard as it looks on our elevation profile! The last five miles or so of Teton Pass is at 10%. It was a very hard effort, but Raymond did great. We were the first over each of the passes today, and the first to the hotel. Not bad for a mother and son on a very heavy bicycle with very big tires. The descent was wonderful, but guess what was waiting for us on the other side? The Snake River! Way up here it has LOTS of water in it and is a rafting destination.
Christopher had a busy day helping with the support. The climb was too much for some who had to be shuttled up. He got to see a moose in the river!
In our pictures today you see the three of us at the first SAG stop. Next is Raymond at the Wyoming State Line. Note the yellow sign in the background “Steep mountain pass ahead 10% grades”. They weren’t kidding! Then you see Ray and I at the top of Teton Pass. Finally there we are in the valley in front of the Grand Teton. What a day! And we get to do it again tomorrow! |
