We snuck out of our hotel room like thieves in the night this morning to allow Teresa to get a bit of extra sleep. She needed it! We’ve been calling her ‘puddle girl’ because of how tired she’s been after her great rides. We were on the road before 7, and spend quite a bit of time on Barnes Road this morning. Teresa (Barnes) aka Puddle Girl should have stayed with us for another day! Raymond and I decided that today we’d start my training for the Masters World Cycling Championships. I have been doing thousands of miles of base work, but absolutely no intensity. So we did some hard time trial intervals to the first SAG stop. Jon, a guy on our trip who founded and runs an artist studio center in Vermont (and with whom Teresa had a lot to talk about) hung on behind us for the whole 25 miles. We saw Christopher at the first SAG, then headed off again, this time pacelining with John from DC, who is very fast. We did some great tempo work, and Jon from Vermont hung in there again, almost the whole way. Christopher was at the second SAG as well, and we tried to get him to ride with us to the end, but he was taking the day off. For the last 25 mile stretch, we got in a paceline with some other speedsters, so really had a great workout. We were sweating buckets in all the humidity, but had a really fun ride. Jon from Vermont had a breakthrough ride following us all day. He was so happy about it that he took us out to lunch at a very nice restaurant, which was a very pleasant interlude. We can see the bridge to Canada out our hotel window. Tomorrow morning we all ride across en masse, and they close a lane of traffic for us to do so. Should be fun!
In the pix below you see Teresa’s Road, then the bridge we cross tomorrow. |
