We walked out of the hotel this morning at 7am and it was POURING down rain! So we turned around and went back to bed for an hour. At 8am it was still raining steadily, though a lot less, so we headed out. We got pretty wet in the first hour before the rain let up. Then we could really savor our last few hours and miles of this great trip. As we got closer to our destination, we could start to smell the ocean, which only added to the excitement. We had a rendez-vous of the entire group at noon in a school parking lot. Raymond and I got there 20 minutes early and immediately rebuilt the bike back to three places. Christopher, who did the entire ride today on a single bike, cruised in shortly before noon and we transferred his pedals and seat back to his spot on the limousine. We started this thing on our triple bike and we were going to finish it that way as well! We had a police escort with sirens blaring as the 60 of us rode the final 3 miles to the beach. There, Peter and all the other friends and families were waiting for us. We took the bike down to the water to dip the front wheel in the Atlantic. Mission accomplished! Christopher got thrown in the water by several of his friends as payback for the many squirt gun and water bottle fights he has had this summer.
In the pictures below, Christopher pulls up after his solo ride today. Then, our police escorted ride to the beach. Next, here we are in the Atlantic—we made it!! Finally, Christopher celebrates by taking a dip—-voluntarily? |
